MODULE FOR 1C-BITRIX
IP Geolocation without limits (Sypex Geo)
The module connects the 'Sypex Geo City (local database)' handler to the standard 1C-Bitrix geolocation settings (Settings → Product Settings → Geolocation). The visitor's country, region, and city are determined using a local database file on the server. This eliminates the need for external API requests, API keys, and query limits.
The standard SypexGeo handler relies on an online API: without registration, only 10,000 requests per month are available. If this limit is exceeded or the service becomes unavailable, city determination stops. This module performs determination on the server side, operating independently of external services.
The functionality enables automatic city detection for regionalization in ready-made solutions (such as Aspro), correct location insertion during checkout in the 'Online Store' module, and operation of any code using the \Bitrix\Main\Service\GeoIp\Manager class directly from the local database without requiring template modifications or code adjustments.
Capabilities include determining the country, region, city, and coordinates in both Russian and English. Search speed is measured in hundredths of a millisecond; the database is read from the disk in chunks and is not fully loaded into memory.
The module provides automatic updates for the geolocation database: an agent checks sypexgeo.net daily for new versions and downloads them only when changes are detected. Before replacing the old database, the new one undergoes a control search check to ensure the site remains operational. The settings page displays database status (build date, size, last check and download dates), includes buttons for manual update and re-download, and offers a tool to test any IP address with output of the local database response and the final geolocation result. The order of handler polling is also configurable. Installation is a two-step process: upon activation, the database is downloaded immediately, and the standard SypexGeo online handler can be optionally disabled. When uninstalling, the database and settings are preserved, and the disabled online handler can be re-enabled. The solution works in a multisite configuration, providing a single geolocation for all installed sites. Requirements include PHP 8.2 or higher, the main module with geolocation support (\Bitrix\Main\Service\GeoIp), approximately 40 MB of free space in the /upload directory, the ability to make outgoing HTTPS requests to sypexgeo.net for database downloads, and the PHP zip extension (ZipArchive) for archive extraction.
The module uses the Sypex Geo City geolocation database, which is downloaded from the site sypexgeo.net. This is a free database under the BSD license and is not included in the module archive; it is downloaded separately. No data about visitors or the site is transmitted anywhere; the module only downloads the database file.
Only IPv4 addresses are supported. Geolocation for IPv6 and local addresses is not determined, and the request is passed to the next handler in the list.
The accuracy of city determination by IP is limited by the technology itself. For mobile internet and some providers, the city may be determined by the location of their node, which often results in Moscow being reported.
The module source code is fully open and contains no encrypted parts. No additional paid services or modules are required.
The module has successfully passed the marketplace-security-skills check for 1C-Bitrix: the status in the security-journal.json file is set to ready_for_submission.
If “IP Geolocation without limits (Sypex Geo)” fits the task, General iT can install the module, configure it and verify the result in the project.
