What to know

Which redirects does the tool detect?

The tool checks server-side HTTP redirects for HTTP and HTTPS links. It does not execute JavaScript or reproduce every browser navigation, such as scripts within a page.

What is the difference between 301 and 302?

301 indicates a permanent redirect; 302 indicates a temporary one. The choice depends on why the address changes. Request methods also matter: 307 and 308 preserve the original method when redirecting.

Why are long redirect chains undesirable?

Each extra redirect requires another HTTP exchange and makes diagnosis harder. Where the rules allow it, send visitors straight to the current address. A necessary single redirect does not itself mean the site is misconfigured.

What is a redirect loop?

The chain returns to an address it has already visited or repeats redirects without reaching a final page. For example, one rule sends HTTP to HTTPS while another sends it back. The check stops when it detects a loop or reaches the redirect limit.

Are redirect check results saved?

Yes. Guest history is available in the same browser for up to 30 days, and account history for up to 365 days. Compare saved chains after enabling HTTPS, moving pages or changing web server rules.
