What to know

Can I identify a website’s hosting provider?

An IP can reveal the ASN and autonomous system operator. This helps identify the network, but does not confirm the hosting provider: the address may belong to an ISP, CDN or intermediary.

How accurate is the city location?

The city and coordinates are approximate. When the database includes an accuracy radius, it is shown in the result. These data do not identify a street address, device owner or live device location.

Why does a domain have several IP addresses?

A website may use load balancing, multiple servers or a CDN. IPv4 and IPv6 also use different addressing formats. We show addresses from our server’s current DNS response; another network may receive a different answer.

What do ASN and the network range mean?

An ASN identifies an autonomous system under a common routing policy. The displayed range is the block of addresses mapped to that operator in the database. This is not a live BGP announcement check.

Does the website need to be publicly accessible?

A domain needs a public DNS response. We do not open or scan the website; IP information comes from the local database. Private and special-purpose addresses are not checked.

How often is the database updated, and where is history stored?

Updates are checked daily. Country, city and ASN datasets can have different release dates, shown in the result. History remains available for up to 365 days in an account or up to 30 days in the same browser without signing in.

International domain names are normalized automatically while retaining their readable form on the page.

Using network information

Review addresses after a migration, compare IPv4 and IPv6 or identify the operator associated with a visible IP. Use DIG for DNS records, WHOIS for domain registration, and availability checks to test access from monitoring locations. Geolocation alone does not establish hosting speed, security or reliability.
