WHOIS — domain information

My history

Enter a domain with or without its protocol, such as https://example.com. We will normalise the address.

A security check runs before starting. It is usually invisible.

Your archive

Check history

Without signing in, history is kept for 30 days in this browser. In your account, it is kept for 365 days.

Stay in control of your domain

Three dates worth understanding

The public record helps you review a domain registration. The registry determines which fields are available.

  1. 01

    Registration date

When the current registration record was created. This alone does not establish website trustworthiness.

  2. 02

    Last update

When the registry updated the record. It does not necessarily indicate a change of ownership.

  3. 03

    Registration expiry

A reminder to renew. Confirm the exact deadline and recovery terms with your registrar.

Clear diagnostics

The public record behind a domain

WHOIS and RDAP expose registration information made available by the relevant registry. The fields depend on the domain extension, and some registrant details may be hidden. A missing field alone does not indicate a problem with the domain.

  1. 01

    Enter a domain

Enter the name without a protocol or page path. Registration information belongs to the domain itself.

  2. 02

    Review the information

Review available dates, registrar details, statuses and name servers. The registry determines which fields are returned.

  3. 03

    Keep a reference

Return to the result in your history when planning a transfer or checking changes made through the registrar.

Questions and answers

What to know

Can I find out who owns a domain?

Only if those details are published. A registry or registrar may redact personal information. The tool shows available registration fields and does not reveal private information.

How is RDAP different from WHOIS?

Both protocols provide registration information. RDAP delivers structured data, while WHOIS usually returns text. Protocol availability and returned fields depend on the domain extension.

Does the expiry date mean the domain becomes available immediately?

No. Subsequent stages depend on the registry and registrar’s rules. Renewal and recovery periods may apply. Use your registrar account for billing and domain management decisions.

If no information is returned, can I register the domain?

An empty response does not confirm that a domain is available. Restrictions or a temporary source outage may be the cause. Check registration availability with a registrar.

How long is WHOIS history kept?

Guest checks remain accessible in the same browser for up to 30 days. Account results are kept for up to 365 days. Each entry is the saved response from that check, not a continuous ownership history.

Check domain registration details online

WHOIS is useful before a website migration, DNS setup or a registration review. Published information may include the registrar, name servers and available dates. Registration data does not prove that a website works and does not replace access to the owner’s registrar account.

What to check before moving a domain or website

Moving a website to another server and transferring a domain to another registrar are separate operations. Before making changes, check the current DNS records, domain management access and registration dates. This helps preserve website and email service during an infrastructure change.
