New Redirect Module in 1C-Bitrix: How to Change Your Catalog Without Losing Visitors

whatAsoft has released a redirect management tool. I explain how to prepare for product URL changes and which errors even a convenient module cannot fix.

Renaming a store section is easy. The challenge is preserving the path for users arriving from search engines, old newsletters, or bookmarks. If the address changes, the old link continues to exist. Without a redirect, it may lead to an error page instead of the intended product.

On September 15, 2026, whatAsoft launched a free "Redirects" module for 1C-Bitrix: Site Management. It allows managing rules from the admin panel and automatically tracking URL changes for selected information blocks. This is a useful tool for catalog reorganization, but a migration plan is still required.

Map Correspondences Before Restructuring

Before making changes, collect the URLs of pages receiving traffic and orders. For each, determine a clear action: does the product move, merge with another card, or disappear permanently? These scenarios cannot be handled with a single bulk command.

When saving a product, it is logical to redirect to its new card. If only the category name has changed, visitors should land in the corresponding section. Redirecting all removed items to the homepage is convenient for administrators, but buyers lose the context of their original query.

Consider a lighting catalog. The "For Bedroom" section was split into wall sconces and table lamps. Before choosing a single target for an old URL, check what visitors were looking for and which products they bought there. Sometimes it is better to keep a meaningful general page with a clear selection.

A single redirect is sufficient.

The module can shorten chains when addresses change sequentially. However, on a real site, rules may act simultaneously at the server level, within the CMS, and in a security service. Therefore, verify the final route in the browser, not just the setting entry.

A good check answers three questions: where the old address leads, what status code the visitor receives, and how many redirects occur before reaching the working page. Also test mobile links, advertising campaign parameters, and addresses using the old domain variant.

A redirect does not replace fixing internal links. Menus, collections, and related product cards should point directly to current pages. This way, visitors and search engines will not need to follow an extra redirect each time.

What to check after the migration

In the first days, it is more useful to monitor specific critical pages than the total number of errors. Check categories with sales, popular products, and advertising landing pages. Correlate new errors with visitor traffic and customer inquiries.

Traffic retention cannot be guaranteed by a single setting. However, pre-prepared mappings, correct response codes, and verification of actual routes significantly reduce accidental losses. The tool automates rules, but the intent behind each redirect remains determined by the store team.
